Blogger Spotlight: Sonya K

I’ve had the pleasure of working with today’s blogger spotlight on my personal blog and she’s really an awesome lady. I love her blog because it’s a breath of fresh air. Sonya shares ways to save money by shopping at your favorite stores on her blog. Make sure to stop by and say hello.

Why did you start blogging about saving money?
I wanted to create the type of blog that I would want to read myself. I love finding a good deal and I thought it would be fun to create a blog to share retail sales deals. Initially, I didn’t think that I would write very many personal posts when I first started my blog. However, I enjoy sharing personal posts also and try to post two or three personal posts each week.
Has blogging lived up to your expectations so far?
Blogging has exceeded my expectations. I never expected to form so many relationships with other bloggers. I truly enjoy being able to create something that others may find useful.
How do you balance being a mom, wife and home school teacher along with your blog?
I generally try to wake up early before my kids wake up. I check my email and decide what sales to post on my blog. I usually work on my blog until my kids get up and then I fix breakfast for everyone. After breakfast I’ll finish up any blogging that I still need to do. Then we begin homeschool lessons until lunch. After lunch we finish up homeschooling and usually just spend the day doing whatever needs to be done around the house. Occasionally I will stay up late to blog after my kids go to sleep, but most of the time I fall asleep with my kids.
You seem very involved in many different blogging communities. Do you think this has positively affected your blog?
I love belonging to different blogging communities. I feel like I’ve learned so much from the other women bloggers who make up these communities. I love what you are doing with Brown Girl Bloggers. I also love the SITS Girl, Bloggy Moms, and Ask Away Friday communities.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
As I mentioned before I love getting to know other bloggers. My favorite part has been meeting and developing relationships so many other wonderful bloggers.
How did your family react to you starting a blog?
My husband is very supportive of my blogging and is actually the reason that I started my blog. Once I mentioned that I was thinking about starting a blog he encouraged me to take the steps to get everything started. My husband also helps me out when he can. He designed my header and helped a lot with other graphics before I discovered PicMonkey.
Are you happy with your blog as it is now or do you have plans to grow it or change it’s direction?
I’m happy with where I am now. I would like to continue learning more about blog design so I can make some design changes. I would also like to become more consistent with writing personal/non-sales posts. The only thing I’m uncertain about is if I will continue to publish posts on Sundays. I go back and forth in my mind about posting flash sales on Sundays. Sometimes I can find time to do it and other times I’m busy with my kids on Sunday evenings.
Is there anything else you would like the Brown Girl Bloggers community to know?
I’ve been blogging a little over a year sharing retail sales and also sharing posts about my life as a wife and mom. I would love to get to know you so please stop by and introduce yourself or leave a comment below.
