6 Ways To Make Commenting Easier For Your Readers

I’ve read that blog commenting is dead. Many believe that people don’t comment as much anymore because of social media. I think I can agree with that which is why I think it’s more important than ever to make commenting on blogs as easy as possible. Below I’m going to share my tips on how to make it easier for readers to comment on your blog.

Ditch the captcha

I’ve spoken about this in the past but I really hate captchas. In theory I get it, you want to stop spammers from commenting on your blog but how many spam comments are you getting? Probably not a lot. I don’t usually comment on blogs with captchas unless I feel very strongly about a subject or author. If I’ve already written my comment and run into one I will probably abandon my comment especially if I’m on my phone or tablet.

Only require readers to fill out their name and email
Your readers should not have to jump through hoops to comment on your blog. I’ve gone to blogs where you have to give your name, email, mama’s maiden name and vial of blood just to comment. That is too much. I’m a fan of allowing guests to comment because I know some people are lazy but the most I’m plugging in is my email and my name.
Approve first time comments
If you’re worried about spam this a great way to combat it. There is an option to do this on WordPress and through the Disqus commenting system.
Ask questions
I like to end each post with a question to prompt responses in the comment section. I love discussions and I feel that this is the easiest way to get one going.
Respond to comments
We’re all human so we might not catch every single comment but you should make it a habit to respond to comments. I go through my comments at least every other night but if that isn’t possible aim for every week.
Use Disqus or a similar service
I’m a big fan of Disqus so I will of course recommend it. It’s what I use here and on my personal blog. It’s so much easier to use than the native blogger, WordPress of Squarespace designs and it integrates Twitter. I like it because it’s easy to log into.
What suggestions would you give to other bloggers?
  • Aww! I wonder why that happened. Hope it all works out.

  • i added disqus to my blog but suddenly it stopped working and my readers in Nigeria couldnt comment so now am still searching for a better commenting plateform. But those are nice tips.
