Something I’ve noticed is that a lot of bloggers are stuck on being perceived as more popular than they are. There are several reasons for this. Some are looking to make more money and want to impress potential clients and some may be hoping for popularity from people who can’t see through the charade.
I’m trying to decide how I feel about this because I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. In business I feel that it is important to have a certain image and to seem like you always know what you’re talking about. You don’t want to be seen as incompetent to potential clients or hiring managers so you talk a good talk. We’ve all done it, right?
I guess blogging is the same since some of us make money from it. Maybe bloggers want to seem more important because they want brand sponsorship. I think this logic is flawed because once a company receives a media kit they’ll see that the blog’s page views don’t exactly match the 17K Instagram followers the author might have.
I don’t try to seem more popular than I am online. I’m taking the slow and steady route to building this blog and my personal blog. I feel like the lessons I’m learning now will make great stories in the future and then popularity will come.
What do you think about bloggers trying to seem more popular? How would you like to be perceived as a blogger?
