Five 5-Minute Tasks To Make Your Blog Better

BETTERWhen I’m not in the blogging spirit, I usually toil behind the scenes, doing little things here and there that will improve my blog. Below is a list of things you can do in five minutes or less to better your blog.

Schedule tweets. Scheduling tweets about old or new blog posts can be especially helpful if you have obligations outside of blogging and can’t spend all day on Twitter. To get ahead, make an account with Tweetdeck or Buffer and start scheduling tweets about your blog posts hours or even days in advance.

Write down a goal. Staring at a lengthy list of goals can be overwhelming, intimidating even. Instead of an entire list, just write down one thing — minor or major — that you want to do for your blog this month. Then, underneath the goal, write down the steps it will take to achieve the goal. Afterwards, put the goal in your planner or on a post-it note, somewhere visible, so you can refer to it for the rest of the month.

Respond to readers’ comments. If you find it difficult replying to readers’ comments in a timely fashion, spend five minutes once a day or five minutes every week responding to as many comments as you can.

Take blog photos. Got an extra five minutes while you’re waiting for a cab/bus/train or waiting in line for your food? Pull out your DSLR or phone and snap some photos of your surroundings. Don’t worry about getting the perfect composition and lighting, as those things can be adjusted later. This is just an easy way to build an archive of potential blog photos.

Email your favorite blogger or reader. If there’s a blog you’ve been recently binge-reading, send a love letter of sorts telling the blogger how much you enjoy reading their posts. Or, if there’s a loyal reader who frequently shares and/or comments on your blog posts, send an email letting him/her know that you see them and value their support.

  • This post is sooo cute. I love these tips and were doing some of them but not all. The picture things is a great idea. Stocking up on images for future use. I live by scheduling Tweets to keep my content fresh to new members of my community. Another thing that I do in my spare a short amount is to say I am going to actually comment on an IG post I love instead of “liking” I think that feedback builds a deeper connection with the people you follow.

  • Thanks, Andrea! Yeah, scheduling tweets saves a lot of time. My suggestion is to only do this for your blog posts and to make sure you’re tweeting in real-time on the days you’ve scheduled tweets so that your feed isn’t just a stream of pre-scheduled tweets.
