I’m sure you’ve noticed the blog’s upgrade. I’ve been working on this for the past week and while I’m sure there is still some tweaking to be done, I’m really happy with the site. Along with the new look comes a lot of new features that I will breakdown below. I would love feedback from all of you once you’ve had some time to navigate the site.
Working With Brands
I have some opportunities coming up for members in our community to work on campaigns, sponsored posts and/or live events with brands. My mission is to help more Brown Girls get paid so if you’re interested in this be sure you’re registered and have a fully completed profile. If you have already registered there will be additional profile fields for you to fill out so make sure your profile is complete.
You’ll notice that the user area has undergone a huge upgrade. Now you will be able to fill out a comprehensive profile. Some items on the profile will only be seen by me.
It’s important for you to fill out the entire profile and keep it up to date if you are a blogger who wants to work with brands. When companies contact me about working with bloggers in this community I will pull information from your profile to determine if you might be a good fit. Although members will automatically get an email with info on campaigns and a way to apply, I will sometimes contact members specifically if I think a campaign is a perfect fit so this is really important.
You’ll notice from the screenshot that you can add a profile picture and cover photo.
Promote Your Blog Here
Once you become a member of the site you will be able to promote your blog on your profile under the activity tab. I recommend plugging your new posts by adding the title, a short summary (or the first paragraph) and an image. Check out my profile to see what I mean. This way other members will be able to see your posts and click on them if interested. This will also be a great way for you to discover new bloggers.
Forums And Group
This site now has an updated forum and group section. You’ll notice that I’ve already added a few groups where I encourage you to add yourself. These groups are blog categories and you can make your own groups as well. I think this will be a great way for you all to trade tips, ask questions and encourage one another. You can add a group under the groups tab at the top of the page.
A Job Board
I thought this would be a good addition to the site because it will help Brown Girls find jobs. If a small business wants to post a job it will be $10 for 30 days however, if a larger company wants to post a job it will be $40 for 30 days. If you’re a blogger looking for a designer for your blog or something similar it will be free to post on our job boards. The posts will also be tweeted and added to Facebook.
Submit A Blogger To Be Profiled
If there is a blogger you want to know more about or a blogger with a mission you think our community should be aware of you can now submit their name, blog and a blurb about them. One of our writers will check them out and if we think they have an interesting story we’ll do a profile on them. Make sure you’re submitting bloggers who the community will be interested in knowing more about. I don’t care if it’s a big blogger or a small blogger. I just want to profile bloggers you will care about.
In an effort to help you ladies expand your audience I will be allowing you to submit posts to the blog. Unlike before these can be posts that were published on your blog although preference will be given to new content.
The posts you submit need to be well written and any images you include need to be of great quality. I reserve the right to publish or deny any post. If I don’t think our audience will find the post useful it will not be published. While I hope to be able to provide feedback on all posts submitted that will depend on the volume I receive. I will edit each post for grammar and style so it may change a bit from what you submitted but I’ll never change the meaning of your words.
The posts do not have to be about blogging although blogging topics are always welcomed. They can be about anything Brown Girls find interesting including: beauty, fashion, food, photography, etc. Make sure it’s a great representation of you so that when people read it they are more inclined to check your blog out.
Phasing Out The Blog Roll
I’ve been tracking the site’s analytics for a few months now and I’ve noticed that the blog roll is a problem. It’s clunky, full or broken links and much too time consuming for me to fix on a regular basis. That’s why I’m adding all of the other ways for bloggers to promote themselves on BGB. With so many bloggers the blog roll isn’t serving its purpose properly so I’m trying to fix that by having more interactive solutions. You can still access the blog roll but eventually I hope that most of you have your own profiles where you can promote each blog post and make it more visually appealing for everyone.
If you haven’t already I encourage you to register because we have a lot of awesome things coming!
What do you think of the site’s new features? Is there anything you would add or take away?
